my chickens love thisGreat taste. A little expensive. I will search for a lower cost steel cut oat. These are excellent Oats!! I live in a small town that doesn't carry a lot of alternative options to 'status quo' food at the store. The only oatmeal available was Quaker's, so I am glad I found this brand! I mainly use these oats to add to my breakfast smoothie, but I did make my daughter oatmeal that she really liked. I really like the resealable bag, it is just hard to get any scoop or spoon in the bag without making a mess. So I put some oats into a smaller container so I don't have to get into the bag every time I make a smoothie..much faster this way! The oats hold their shape in my smoothie, which is what I want, and taste really good! I will definitely keep buying this brand!!I like the taste of these oats better than Quaker's that I have been eating for years, but was recently looking for a certified gluten-free option, which this one is. It needs a bit more water to reach the same consistency as Quaker's old-fashioned oats. I don't care that the packaging is weird - just cut the top off and keep it closed with a clothespin, that's what I do. The taste and quality is what matters here.Great tasting oat mealOne of the bags was open when I got it. Good thing I'm using these for bath teas and not for eating.....I have been making homemade Goetta with steel cut oats for years, decided to try these when my Mccanns ran out. These are not the hearty, firm oats that I love, but more like the mushy oatmeal the kids eat when we are short on time. I followed the ratios on the bag and ended up with an awful, soupy mess, had to use an entire bag vs. two cups, just to get the consistency right. This forced me to nearly quadruple the portions of all the other ingredients, yielding nearly 8 quarts, five of which I threw away. This might be okay for sweet, runny breakfast oats, but I would not recommend for any recipes that call for pin/steel oats. It will probably be pitched next time I clean the pantry.I’ve tried all kinds of quick oats for my overnight oats. This is the best. The oats absorb so well that I can only describe the finished product as creamy. Love that they are gluten free as well!
